Lomahuoneisto Paradise ★★★
Excellent holiday! We spent most of our time at either the superb Li Cossi beach (5 mins drive and a splendid 15/20 min walk - good luck with the parking!) or on the main beach at Isola Rossa (15/20 min drive to a very pleasant town with a very good number of eating and drinking options and plenty of free parking). The whole wider area is is rustic and charming, but Costa Paradiso takes this to another level of ruggedness, but it is much more verdant, than Andalusia, for example. The development of this area seems to have been done with great sensitivity and minimal visual intrusion. Gravina Resort has a number of apartment units clustered around various shared pools. Our apartment was handsome, clean and well maintained. If it was your place, you would have more charming furniture, but the furniture provided was functional, clean and in very good order. Ideally there would be better provision of cooking equipment/utensils) although not everyone wants to cook on their holidays; we were short of a few items (crockery/cutlery/chopping board/bottle opener) but these were provided instantly and with good grace, on request. Don't expect an oven (there is a 4 ring gas hob) or a separate freezer (although there is a small freezing compartment in the fridge, good for a couple bottles of beer/wine). We had a pleasant balcony overlooking the pool. There was efficient A/C in the bedrooms. Nicely tiled and fitted bathroom with shower (no bath). Individual wifi for each apartment: excellent! You can easily walk to the "Sporting Centre" (400/500 m on a flattish road) to use the restaurant or bar: for €20 per person per week you can have unlimited access to tennis courts and a larger swimming pool, if you wanted to. In the other direction you can walk downhill and round the corner to a separate resort with a pizzaria/restaurant/bar (didn't try it ourselves). It is fair to say the you will want to have use of a car at this resort as it would be a long hot and hilly walk to any of the resort supermarkets and the other restaurants and bars. The swimming pool was lovely, but not deep. The families of boars that roam around the resort and wider area are incredibly sweet and very partial to watermelon skin. Customer service in the resort reception office was very efficient and friendly with excellent English,French and Spanish speaking options (but don't expect this everywhere that you go across the island). We could not fault our stay, which we thought represented excellent value for money. If you are really fussy about specifications, pay more, elsewhere. I have seen one or two dodgy reviews for this resort and I can't really begin to understand what the writers'initial expectations were. We have certainly had an extremely pleasant and comfortable holiday! We would come here again and would recommend it to our friends. This is certainly a great part of the world!
